Egg Donation Success Rates: Frequently Asked Questions

What are the methods used to calculate egg donation success rates?

There are several methods used to calculate egg donation success rates. At CentraLIVF we use the quotient of the number of favourable results (number of clinical pregnancies or live births) divided by the number of procedures performed (i.e. embryo transfers).

What is the clinical pregnancy rate for oocyte donation?

The Clinical Pregnancy Rate for oocyte donation is calculated by dividing the number of clinical pregnancies by embryo transfers performed. Clinical pregnancies are defined as those confirmed by a positive hCG test and ultrasound scan at 6-8 weeks.

CentraLIVF’s Clinical Pregnancy Rate since 2017 is 75% when the embryo quality guarantee has been met.

What is the Live Birth Rate?

The Live Birth Rate refers to the percentage of “take-home babies” born following an IVF-ICSI treatment. At CentraLIVF, the egg donation live birth rate is calculated by dividing the number of live births by number of embryo transfers. We believe that this figure provides our patients a more accurate picture of their chances. At CentraLIVF, the live birth rate since 2017 has been 88% of total pregnancies. Unfortunately, not all clinical pregnancies lead to a live birth.

What happens if implantation is not successful?

If the first embryo transfer is not successful you can try soon after to have frozen embryo transfer. We describe an implantation failure as three or more failed IVF cycles using fertilized eggs (with good-quality embryos) or implantation not occurring after transferring over ten ‘good-looking’ embryos over many cycles. Failing to implant an embryo can be attributed to two reasons: the embryo isn’t good enough (genetically abnormal) or the endometrium is not “receptive” (allows the embryo to implant) enough. But you can always try again for another cycle of treatment.
